Author P.W. Pattison has written a lively and fun-to-read cookbook called Anyone Can Cook! The author's writing is lively and humorous making his cookbook a pleasure to read. He placed the Gourmet Mashed Potatoes recipe in the Entree chapter. To me mashed potatoes are a side dish not an entree.
He did not include a disclaimer concerning the use of raw eggs in the Kahlua Chocolate Mousse recipe. Most authors don't do this either but the USDA does not recommend eating raw eggs.
The inclusion of many name brand products needed to prepare the recipes. For example: The Red Wine Spaghetti Meatballs recipe calls for Barilla Angel Hair pasta, frozen Armor Italian Meatballs, Ragu Pasta Sauce (the author notes any other brand would fine too). There are many other recipes in his cookbook that call for name-brand ingredients. If you are a novice cook, or a cook needing to get the meal on the table quickly, the use of these ingredients will help. Note: Using prepared ingredients such as the meatballs will usually add to the cost of the recipe.
At the end of the book he gives a shameless plug for his friend's restaurant. His friend is Perry Walton who owns the restaurant. A mention of the restaurant probably would have been just fine for me, but the author goes on and on like an informercial concerning his friend's restaurant.
Any way, this cookbook is a decent cookbook if you don't mind using store bought ingredients to prepare the recipes. As I wrote earlier this book is fun to read.

Mr. Pattison's, Anyone Can Cook, is an inspiration to the "inner cook" in all of us who is screaming to get out. The book is simple in its approach and the cooking neophite is inspired and encouraged to experiment and expand on the author's ideas and recipes. This book is a "no nonsense" approach to making wonderfully uncomplicated, quick, and satisfying family dishes and desserts leaving everyone asking for second and third helpings. Paul's down home, simple, and humorous style, leaves the reader with the difficult decision of choosing which mouth watering recipe to take on, first. I made the Creamy Chicken Alfredo right out of the gate and was genuinely surprised at how simple and truly delicious it was. Tonight, I plan on tackling the Gourmet Mashed Potatoes and the Caramel Turtle Truffle Brownie Delight, afterward. I can already tell, keeping my figure is going to be a challenge. But like Paul says, "Eat what you want and like, just watch your portion size". If we all followed this simple advice, the fad diet folks would be looking for better things to write about. I loved that the author was "no holds barred" in recommending and comparing "brand names" and fully explaining his reasons of preference. Overall, this is really a neat little cookbook that's easy to read and delightfulto execute. I only wish he'd shared more, but with recipes like these, I could never get enough.
